Apollo takes control of his dreaming and figures out the fasces (Nero’s power source) is guarded by a leontocephaline from Persian mythology. One of his adopted children cuts Lu’s hands off and she is thrown into prison with Apollo. Meg and Apollo surrender to Nero who already knew the plan.

Nico and Apollo convince the trogs to fight on their side and disable the vats but the cattle attack.

Lu plans for Apollo to push her off a building and pretend that they got away so they can plan. They go to Percy’s house where Sally and Paul give them a place to stay for the night. One of them is a Gaul named Luguselwa or “Lu.” She helps Meg and Lester escape. On a train to New York, Meg and Apollo meet an amphisbaena which gives another stanza of the prophecy. Unfortunately, that battle is against Nero and Python. Lester Papadopoulos aka Apollo has one final battle to win before he can return to godhood.
